Syllabus Matrikulasi

Alhamdulillah dah seminggu grade from matriculation college in Negeri Sembilan. I'm a one-year programme student in science. If you've been updated with my previous article, I've been sharing about a wide view of studies in Malaysia for SPM-leavers. But this time around, I wanna share my life in matriculation college. Yes. It's tough 😭

What is it that you wanna know? What is it that I wanna tell? I'm not sure myself.

I'll start with the syllabus. Start session 2018/2019, system matriks dah berubah ikut system MQA. Credit hour berubah. Syllabus pun banyak berubah. So kalau nak tanya senior, better tanya senior yg dari session 2018/2019.

Generally, matriks ada bidang engineering, accounting, pure science and teknikal. Matriks tawarkan 2 program dalam bidang sains. Program Satu Tahun (PST) dan Program Dua Tahun (PDT). PST or PDT depends on your SPM result. Dia tengok result add maths yg paling utama. Kalau D tu memang PDT lah. I'm not sure about matrikulasi teknikal.

Kolej Matrikulasi Negeri Sembilan (KMNS)(my college, hehe) offer dua bidang studies - science and accounting. Science pulak ada 3 categories - Module I, Module II and Module III. Accounting, on the other hand, is just accounting. I'm from Module I. Firstly, masa dapat tawaran ke matrikulasi, memang tahu kita dapat bidang apa. Kalau student sains, dia bagitahu PST ke PDT. Masa dah daftar, waktu minggu orientasi, baru akan tahu kita module berapa - kalau student sains lah. But then, let say you taksuka, then you can change your module. Nanti kena masuk kelas as usual dulu. Lepas seminggu baru permohonan dibuka untuk tukar module. Tak leceh pun. Tak perlu surat tunjuk sebab. 99.9% orang yg apply nak tukar module akan diterima. Ada borang dekat One Stop Centre (OSC) yg kita perlu isi.

• Mathematics

Module III
• Science computer
• Chemistry
• Biology
• Mathematics

Those are the subjects you will learn as a science student. So boleh pilih ikut kemampuan masing-masing. Idk what are the subjects for accounting tapi semua subjects, tak kira la science or accounting, akan belajar in English (untuk accounting, rasanya subject account je belajar in English. Business semua tu in Malay kot). Actually tak susah pun nak adapt dengan bahasa. Because in the end, it's about concepts. In my class, rasanya 2-3 orang je yg belajar subjek sains in English masa sekolah menengah. Awal-awal tu susah sikit diorang nak biasakan terms but then they eventually catch up. If you belajar dalam BM dekat sekolah, you can also catch up within time. Trust me :)

Mathematics yg korang akan belajar dekat level matriks adalah level add maths sekolah menengah TAPI LAGI ADVANCED! Reason why I'm telling this is because, masa mula-mula masuk matriks, I jumpa orang yg study maths form 4 form 5. Quite weird sebab memang takda kena mengena dengan level maths matriks. Rupanya dia ingatkan maths matriks ni modern mathematics. Not at all.

Semua subjek tu ada assignment each. Assignments contribute to 40% for CGPA (your pointer) and 60% comes from written test - for student PST. Kalau student PDT, 60% assignment and 40% written test. Written test ni nama dia PSPM - Peperiksaan Semester Program Matrikulasi. You will be sitting for this test macam feeling SPM 😎

Assignments include written task, practical test and lab report. Practical test ni, nanti masa hujung semester, korang kena buat experiment sorang-sorang. Procedure semua tu kena betul. Cara handle apparatus and material akan dinilai. Result experiments pun akan affect markah. Lepas dah siap buat experiment, korang kena terus buat lab report. Nanti akan belajar lah. I'm just giving a rough idea on what you are going to go through ;-) enjoy while it lasts kay.

Untuk matrikulasi kejuruteraan, they learn the same thing as science students from Module II. Cuma nama kolej tu Kolej Matrikulasi Kejuruteraan because bidang yg dia tawarkan include subject Physics, bukan Biology. Dia macam dah specific lah. Cuma not necessarily ambik Physics jadi engineer kan?

Subjek tambahan :-
• Pengajian am matrikulasi (PAM)
• Pendidikan agama/moral
• Ko-kurikulum (Koko)

Tiga subjek ni tak dikira dalam pointer and tiga subjek ni semua student matriks belajar - tak kira bidang apa. ADA ASSIGNMENT tau! Tapi tak la susah. Assignment tu buat elok-elok even if tak masuk pointer because dia ada grade. Nanti keluar dekat slip exam so tak cantik kan kalau pointer elok tapi subjek tambahan tu tak dapat A. These 3 subjects, takda lah korang kena belajar sekaligus dalam satu sem. Alternately. Kalau sem I, jadual korang ada subjek koko, then sem II baru belajar PAM and agama/moral. Vice versa.
